Sakamoto Days Wiki
Profile

Shin Asakura (朝倉あさくらシン Asakura Shin?), also known as the Clairvoyant (千里眼の), is the deuteragonist of the series Sakamoto Days. Shin is an ex-hitman and an employee at the Sakamoto's Store that was once an old partner and former student of Taro Sakamoto. After failing to kill Sakamoto, Shin joins him and his family.

His name at birth would likely have been Shin Ando, however, at some point, he took that name of Asakura, going by Shin Asakura. However, all materials related to the JAA (his hitman license[3]) and JCC (his test results[4]) show just his given name, Shin.

Appearance[]

Shin is a slim but muscular build, young man of medium height. He has blond, medium-length hair and large black eyes (blue in the anime). His first appearance shows Shin in an open leather jacket along with a plain tee, baggy dark pants, and bright tennis shoes. He later appears often in his work attire consisting of a collared dress shirt, a pair of slacks, and a green apron. His attire tends to vary as the chapters continue but he generally wears either his work attire or a long-sleeve shirt or jacket layered over a tank-top or t-shirt.

Personality[]

Shin is an honest, straightforward, and collected young man. He typically remains calm and composed even in serious situations, though this occasionally can be broken by comical bouts of anger, irritation, or fear from mundane stimuli. Shin is confident but is not arrogant and remains analytical in fights. He takes pride in his clairvoyance, knowing its strengths, and limitations and how to apply them in battle. Shin has immense determination and willpower. This, coupled with his loyalty, inherently caring nature, and value for life allows him to continue fighting against heavily stacked odds. Like many others, Shin respects and looks up to Sakamoto.

Relationships[]

Tasuku Ando[]

Shin's current feelings towards his biological father, Tasuku, are unknown.

As a child, he leaves to look for Ando, believing someone connected to him by blood would understand and accept him for who he is. [5] [6] But after being ignored by his father Tasuku Ando, he becomes upset with him, referring to him as scum. [6][7] Despite that, he doesn't want Sakamoto to kill him. [6][7]

Asakura[]

Asakura is like an uncle and father figure to Shin, having taken care of him in his childhood. During Asakura's research in developing superhuman powers, a young Shin took an interest in seeing his success.

Shin remained protective of Asakura's work, whether it was when other researchers showed doubt or, once it proved successful with Shin able to read thoughts, Asakura regretted it after his colleagues began avoiding Shin. In contrast, Shin wanted Asakura to be glad his work succeeded and even rejected his want to reverse the effects.[8]

Years later, Shin reunited with Asakura while on a mission to save Lu Shaotang and commended his research. This time, acknowledging how Shin has been able to take advantage of his clairvoyance, Asakura agreed.

Taro Sakamoto[]

Shin was formerly a partner of the legendary hitman Taro Sakamoto during Sakamoto's hitman days. He now works as an employee in Sakamoto's shop, with Sakamoto as his boss. The two have fought together with extreme efficiency. Shin initially harbors deep respect and admiration for Sakamoto Taro, seeing him as a mentor and a strong figure, and later develops a strong bond with him, viewing him as a brother and a friend. Shin harbors a great deal of respect and admiration for Sakamoto, seeing him as a mentor and one of the greatest men in his life. Although Shin holds Sakamoto in high regard he mocks Sakamoto's decision to retire and calls him "soft." Later, as Shin reports to his boss, it's revealed later, as Shin reports to his boss, it’s revealed that if he failed to recruit Sakamoto back into the JAA, then he would need to kill his old partner for defecting from the organization. Shin initially sees Sakamoto as a mentor, and Sakamoto trusts Shin with important missions. Shin is extremely loyal to Sakamoto, as seen when he came to Sakamoto's aid against the invisible man.

While the two often bicker, they value each other greatly and can work as an effective team he respects her and her skills and abilities and he treasures her as a ally and a good friend of his.

Shin met Tenkyu in the JAA Jail while Tenkyu was asleep. Shin discovered that Tenkyu was in the prison to find the JAA's fortune teller and use her to discover how he could make up with Uzuki and the other orphans, due to being kicked out because of the danger he posed. Shin lied about being the fortune teller to not give away that he and Heisuke were Sakamoto's allies.

However, Shin blew his cover once Tenkyu revealed that the specific reason for being kicked out was that he wanted to kill Hana and Aoi Sakamoto to lure out Taro. Shin punched Tenkyu and declared that he would take his life, being open about his hatred for the latter. At the end of their arduous battle, Shin thoroughly expresses his lack of hesitation towards killing Tenkyu as well.

Mafuyu Seba[]

Shin encountered Mafuyu during the JCC exam, he stopped him from killing an examiner who Mafuyu had already defeated. Shin got annoyed when Mafuyu called him an old man and fought Mafuyu for his bullets, after using his future sight ability Shin defeated Mafuyu and took his bullets. After their fight Mafuyu clung to Shin like a younger brother much to Shin’s chagrin. Shin still took his mentor roll seriously and would discipline Mafuyu for his rude behaviour

Skills & Abilities[]

Overall Skill Level: Shin is a competent clairvoyant hand-to-hand combatant. Sakamoto's last assessment during the JCC infiltration[9] puts Shin at a little above the level of the average JAA teacher, except for outliers such as the late Satoda. As a part of the Sakamoto family, Shin restrains himself from killing anyone.

Enhanced Strength: Shin has held his own handling dangerous serial killers such as Saw, as well as dealing blows powerful enough to Shinaya that Gaku (who was controlling Shinaya and capable of fighting Order members), decided to take him more seriously. Shin was also able to dive down, retrieve an unconscious Toramaru, and swim back to the surface.[10] In his battle with Haruma , Shin gives a blow punch and threw Haruma out of the arena(sumo), Haruma admits that Shin’s blows are suprisingly powerful. Shin’s blows made Tenkyu’s mouth bleed and knocked out one of his teeth.

Enhanced Speed: In addition to his clairvoyance, Shin was able to avoid blows from Toramaru and Shinaya, both special-recommendation JAA applicants. During a fight on a rollercoaster track, Shin was able to dodge an incoming cart and evade throwing knives in midair [11], as well as an airsoft bullet being fired by Kill Baby even when he is wearing a blindfold .[12] In his battle with Tenkyu,Shin commands his mind to function at max power. In other words, Shin can push his brain to process at peak speed, this made everything he saw slow down.

Enhanced Durability: Shin was able to take blows from Shinaya, who was able to send fellow assassins flying with one hand. After being sent flying across a theme park and crashing onto a stage, Shin got up with no difficulty.[13] Shin was even able to take casual strikes from Sakamoto. Shin was still able to stand up even though Haruma slammed him and received a blow from Haruma. in his battle with Tenkyu, Shin was still able to survive and win even though he suffered many injuries to his body due to falling from a height, arrow shots, punches and materials such as rocks.

Clairvoyance: Shin can read and feel the minds/thoughts of people within a 400-meter radius (chapter 193) it works by tuning into their minds like a radio. He can pick out specific people due to their emotional state, typically using this to predict enemy movements or deduce what they're thinking. However, Shin clairvoyance is less beneficial if the person's thoughts are too overwhelming for him to read (e.g., Lu Wutang)[14], or if the opponent is too fast for him to react anyway. His ability is dependent on electromagnetic brainwaves; Natsuki Seba's hood, which blocks such waves, can prevent Shin from reading his mind.[15]

Precognition: By reading a person's motor-readiness potential (i.e., the spike in activity in the brain's motor areas before a muscle movement), Shin can see the future actions of someone. In the manga, this precognition is visualized by several juxtapositions of what will happen. However, overusing this ability causes great pain. Granny Miya comments that Shin should only use his precognition for 5 minutes a day.[16]

Mind Control: He can forcefully rewrite their thoughts, forcing them to comply to the new action.[17][18] The drawback of this command is that he cannot use this ability on the same person multiple times, as shown in his battle against Tenkyu where he could not stop him after stopping him once before; however, this drawback isn't present when rewriting his own thoughts, meaning he can use it on himself as much as he wants.[19] He is also able to rewrite the thoughts of multiple people at a time, including, but not limited to, an entire town of people.[20]

Miscellaneous Assassin Training: As an assassin, Shin also acquired several essential skills such as basic martial arts, gun handling, and a degree of poison tolerance.

Swimming skills: Even after falling into the JAA Jail's lowest floor's lake as a result of falling into a crater in the ground created by Tenkyu, Shin somehow manages to show some great swimming skills.[21]

Equipment[]

Power Glove: Created by Natsuki Seba, the glove gives Shin access to enhanced strength by turning off the limiter in his brain to utilize his latent potential. When attacking with the glove, there is a delayed reaction which requires Shin to look into the future to use it properly. The more of a delay there is, the more powerful the attack. Upon receiving the glove initially, the delay is set to 0.5 seconds.[22]
