Byodo (
Appearance[]
Byodo is an old, wrinkled man of average height with a scraggly beard and hair. So far, he has only been seen wearing janitor coveralls, alongside a cap and a lanyard with a card.
Personality[]
Byodo is a laidback individual, displaying little surprise when Taro Sakamoto reappears at the JCC or when faced with the chaos the veteran assassin causes. He enjoys teasing his grandson, Amane, but becomes mildly annoyed when he skips classes, often giving him a light tap on the head. Although Byodo disapproved of Amane’s involvement with Slur’s group, he continued to offer his support and invites him to visit or talk when needed.
In contrast to Amane, Byodo shows little interest in seeking revenge against his son-in-law Yotsumura for killing his daughter, Amane’s mother, instead maintaining a more composed and detached approach.
History[]
Byodo has been working at the JCC since Sakamoto and Nagumo were students. He also raised a then 7-year old Amane in the JCC. By the time of the JCC Infiltration Arc, he still works there.
Sakamoto first encounters him while pursuing Amane. Byodo recognizes Sakamoto through his disguise and after a brief conversation tells Sakamoto to tell Amane to visit him.
Byodo is later seen outside with Amane. The two talks reminisce about the past and Amane's future.
Abilities[]
Despite his age, Byodo still possesses competent physical abilities. Additionally, his memory is vastly superhuman, allowing him to serve as the JCC's student database.
Enhanced Strength: Byodo blocked an overhead strike from Club Jam, a powerful assassin under Slur[1], though he was still lightly wounded.
Photographic Memory: Byodo possesses an extraordinary memory, far beyond any character in the series. His memory is so powerful he serves as the student database for the JCC, a task otherwise reserved for computers. He has a comprehensive bank of information on 38,764 students, which is presumably every student that ever attended the JCC.
Byodo also remembers the dates of all 783 times he hit his grandson on the head.
Enhanced Perception: Byodo was the only person able to see through Sakamoto's disguise.
Etymology[]
- Byodo means "mausoleum" (廟堂).
Trivia[]
- Byodo's name was unknown up to Chapter 90, until then he was referred to as Amane's grandfather.
- Both Etsuko Satoda and Byodo were the only members of their class still alive when Satoda was offered to be part of the Order.
